Busy weeks

That's right, I've actually gone from having nothing to do at all to having too much to do. Let's see... things that have happened since my last post..

- Been into the city with Rudy and Co. once more, pretty much the same thing we did last time.

- Signed up for a research project where I could earn about a hundred bucks for using a search engine.

- Participated in aforementioned research project. Got bored to death and frustrated out of my skull with the useless search engine they made us use (now I know why they paid us for it).

- Took up online dating, on the indirect advice of my psychologist.

- Got stood up for my first date (sad huh?)

- Made a fair few gay friends around Melbourne (though mostly people I only know online). Met up with one of them.

- And the BIG one... went on my first date (without being stood up :)). That was a seriously interesting experience, but I'm not going to post everything that happened then up here (at least, not yet - maybe never). The short version is we had lunch, movie, more food we were too stuffed to eat (big lunch), shopping, and parted. The long version is private for now - too many people I know know about this blog for me to put up all the details. Anyway, it seems like I now have a boyfriend - Mark. Very cute guy. We'll be meeting up again soon, and I can't wait :)

So, all in all, it's been a very busy few weeks, hence my lack of any posting on here. I'll try and keep this blog a little more up to date in future.

Nada

Very little is happening with my life at the moment. I zipped into the city for a couple of hours today to have lunch with Rudy and Ari... turned out Rudy didn't wake up until I messaged him asking where he was, and Ari never showed up. On the upside to that trip, they were doing interviews in the Games Studio for the new games students, so I got a good look at a few of the new students. Other than that, the trip was completely uneventful - I went, I ate, I went home. Also gonna go see the new Harry Potter movie with Brad this coming Sunday - be the first time we've seen each other for a while. It looks like those two events - today's lunch and Sunday's movie - will comprise my entire social life over the next three months.

Spoke with my psychologist yesterday. We didn't really discuss much of interest, but she's embarked on an exercise that will with luck 'desensitise' me of my phonophobia, which will be great if it works (personally, I'm sceptical).

Finally, my results came out yesterday. I'm relieved - I managed high distinctions in Maths and Programming, a distinction (just) in Games Studio 2, and just scraped a pass in Imaging & Animation - 52/100. Can't wait to get going for next year... I leave you with some more boring blog quiz results that probably don't mean anything...

Lancin' Away

So, yesterday I got a copy of Freelancer (space shooter, a couple of years old, for you readers who aren't as games-crazy as I am). In a desperate attempt to stave off the onrushing boredom, I've been playing it almost solid for the last two days flat. And now I'm stuck. And bored. I had a temporary relief from boredom, but now it's crept back. :(

Anyway in other news I've just recalled that at my last meeting with my counsellor she said I should try and write a draft of a coming-out letter to my parents. I know I'm ready to come out to my parents - I've put this off long enough. I know exactly how I want to come out - pick a day when they're both out all day (like at work), leave the letter in a visible place, and go spend the night at Brad's house. The only possible flaw in this plan is if they call his house and yell over the phone "how could you do this to us?!" - his parents don't know about my sexuality, so that could be slightly awkward :/ Anyway that plan is how I'd like to do it and there's no better time than the holidays, and my counsellor knows this. After parents comes the games students at uni (my friends all know, but the rest don't - I hope). Shouldn't have too much of a problem there - most of them are reasonably intelligent and educated, and I can let the gossip loose to come out (no soapboxes for me :p).

As far as coming out goes, a lot of other people with blogs (internationally) are being outed. Joe had his blog found by someone at school and the gossip train outed him. Brad (international one, not my friend) had his phone messages read by his mother. Adam had 'stuff' on his computer discovered. Everyone's being outed. With any luck, I'll be next.

Bored.....

I'm totally bored out of my brains right now. LAN party on wednesday and thursday was OK - just OK. Attendance was way down on what we expected, we played pretty much nothing but Counterstrike, and we weren't even able to use the Games Studio for the first half of Wednesday - electricians doing the lighting (and after that, we couldn't use the projector since the lights were on - the dumbasses had removed the light switch). So it fell a fair bit short of my expectations, but I'd probably do it again if they host another one later.

I got thrown a trial key and a burnt copy of World of Warcraft, but it won't install. That definitely has me annoyed - my friends talk me into playing it, then I get an unusable copy. I may or may not buy a legal copy to play over the holidays. But yeah - I've got pretty much nothing to do but play warcraft 3 on battle.net, and that gets stale after a while. The only other alternative to another 3 months of boredom is to get a job (something I'll need to do to buy WoW anyway) and that'll be tought for me with my phonophobia. I'm working with my counsellor to get over that issue, but she's overseas (in California - I wish I was there with all the hot Cali boys) and won't be back until the end of November. Nonetheless, we're scheduled to meet up and begin dealing with the issue, and with any luck I'll have a job in early December.

Work, Withdrawal, and Warcraft

So... quite a lot has happened since my last post. I've had my exams on the 4th - Maths wasn't overly difficult, but Programming had some badly written questions where what was being asked was unclear. I'm fairly sure I passed them both, but I'm not certain I'll get high marks. Follwing the exams, I went for a celebratory dinner with a few of the other programmers. That was alright - not great, but alright. That night, I was supposed to get online for Warcraft III with a few friends, but while waiting for them to show up I laid down on my bed to rest for a moment and I must've been asleep almost instantly - I don't even remember actually lying down. I slept until about 4, which was still early enough for me to get in a couple of rounds. After that everyone went to bed. When I got up at 6 the following evening (:/), my Internet had stopped working, and I've been without it right up until about an hour ago. Major withdrawal symptoms - I've been bored to death, mostly playing simple single-player games to pass the time.

So either way, now I'm back online, and of course I still don't have anything to do. Dangy's playing world of warcraft, Rudy's not even online, and there isn't really anyone else to play games with. Dangy and Rudy are hoping to draw me into World of Warcraft (WoW) over the holidays - Rudy'll offer me a 10-day free trial in the hope I'll fall in love with it when I see it. I'll probably end up getting it despite the monthly fee - there really is nothing else for me to do.

Wednesday and Thursday has the upcoming LAN party hosted by the games group DAP, and I'm fairly eager for that. I doubt I'll make it onto any teams (maybe I'll form my own) but I'm definitely looking forward to some good healthy UT2K4 and possibly some WC3 trigger maps.

Nothing happening.

Nothing much has been happening in my life lately. With luck, though, the holidays won't be quite as boring as I'd thought. Every night (usually starting between 12 and 3 am) me and a couple of friends play several rounds of WC3. I've also received requests to join teams of Games students working on mods over the holidays, and an invitation to go see some movie called 'Serenity' - I've never heard of it, but apparently "I'll like it". There's a LAN party being hosted by a group of Games students (the DAP - Designers/Artists/Programmers) on the 9th, and with any luck my counsellor (psychologist? I dunno) will help me get a job, get a driver's license, maybe get a boyfriend, and who knows what else across the holidays.

I gotta go for a game of Warcraft 3 now - I might later post again to finish off what I wanted to say, but ran out of time :/

Stressful Fortnight

And so ends the most stressful fortnight of my life. All the assignments are in - the Games Studio mod on Monday, the Imaging and Animation on Thursday. The mod still wasn't really complete - the last level was so full of bugs it was pretty much non-functional (if you're really interested, you can download it from my team's website - yallara.cs.rmit.edu.au/~jhead/ga/). The I&A assignment was good by my standards, but looking at some other people's I'm not so confident. In any case, that's all over with now. Last day of RMIT attendance was Friday, when I had to give a presentation for the mod. That went OK - not great, but not bad enough to stress over. We then had a fairly good time in the Sutdio, playing Warcraft 3 and then CS: Source. After that, I went to Brad's 20th birthday - that was extremely quiet for the first half-hour or so, but picked up pace a bit after that. Sadly, I left about 2 am, which was about the same time a whole bunch of people showed up.

So, now I'm enjoying (or not) that tediously, boring tediousness of the holidays. I still have exams on the 4th of November, and a LAN party the Games students are organising on the 9th and 10th, but overall I'm feeling bored to death already - and it's only the first day. So I guess I'll just catch up on the 40 or so hours of sleep I've missed over the last fortnight, and hope for something unusual to happen to my life to make it more interesting.
